Backstory:Sayoko hasn’t always been terrified of her father S'Rhiki. There has been a time when he would carry her around on his shoulders, proudly telling everyone she was his daughter and I'Lyhia his wife. He wanted Sayoko to be a great warrior like him, and was more than a little disappointed when she chose the bow to be her weapon like her mother. He never showed it however until suddenly not only him but other members of the tribe started to act differently towards her.The normally happy and easygoing demeanor of the girl dulled down when other young Miqo’te of the tribe started ganging up on her, bullying her with words and actions. One of the kids even went as far as to throw a stone at her, without repercussions aside from a scolding from Sayoko’s mother. Her father told their daughter to just deal with it and fight back, to not be such a disgrace.S'Rhiki grew more stern and sometimes even angry with Sayoko whenever she lost a battle or let their prey escape because she ran out of arrows, but I'Lyhia always protected her. Until one day his hand slipped against her mother, slapping her square in the face. Sayoko wasn’t present that day, she only noticed the red streaks on her mother’s cheek and her swollen lips, but I'Lyhia didn’t speak about the incident. On occasion, when Sayoko was supposed to be training, I’Lyhia took her to different places, away from the people that hurt her daughter, even if one of them was her husband. While I’Lyhia always was supportive of her mother, her affection grew stale with some time as well. One day, S’Rhiki took Sayoko on a special hunt to the Ruby Sea. At first the girl was in awe of the ocean, never having seen it before, but when she turned to her father to ask what they were hunting for at a place like this he had already grabbed her by her collar and held her over the cliff by the ocean. He asked her if it was worth it to skip practice and go different places, to anger him and everyone else in the tribe. Before she could answer however, he threw her on the ground behind himself and told her to come back home alone, leaving the traumatized girl behind. When she reached her home many hours later, I'Lyhia awaited her, somehow knowing what had happened. Sayoko couldn’t look at her father anymore, packing her things and, with the help of her mother, left for Kugane. From there she went to Ul’dah, deciding to study magic. For some reason, people treated her differently, almost kindly, for a couple years but eventually it all came back, to a point where she sometimes even seemed invisible to others and she found herself unable to use magic anymore.
tldr;Sayoko left her family and her tribe at a young age due to an incident with her father, travelled to Kugane and from there to Ul'dah. She studied black magic and decided to do the same with every other disciples of magic before joining the Warrior of Light and the Scions as unofficial/honorary Scion.
Bonus info:
Sayoko, or the anti mage as some called her years later, was one of the very few beings that were born without any form of magic and without a soul on top of that. Being soulless wasn't without hardships, some before her that were similar yet not as strong to her extent, were ridiculed and abused to death, leaving no trace of them ever existing.Someone granted her a briefly normal life due to aforementioned factors, but that didn't last long. Whenever you're not actively making yourself aware of her you just blend her out (just like you don't see your own nose), so in situations where your attention is needed elsewhere she just slips your mind — literally.
Nothing more than an afterimage and afterthought, like spotting someone or something in the crowd only for it to have been your imagination afterwards. Spending too much time actively concentrating on her gives you a bad headache, but that's a small price to pay for her friendsDue to her being magicless she also absorbs every form of magic in a small radius — like a walking silence bubble. Small demons and other creatures purely made of magic poof out of existence near her.
